It is more advantageous than ever before to be member of a guild in Cataclysm. This is because your guild will now earn experience points, too!Your guild will earn experience in the same way players earn experience: by being successful. For example, if more than 80% of a raid group consists of members of your guild while you clear a raid instance, you gain experience for every boss you kill, every achievement you unlock and so on.

Winning Battlegrounds or performing other feats will also increase your guilds experience. This doesn’t mean that bigger guilds have an advantage over smaller ones, though. A guild with 150 members which consists of really bad players who simply cannot even reach the easiest milestones will never reach a higher level. However, a small guild with 15 enormously capable players will have no problem steadily leveling up.

A guild can gain a maximum of 25 levels. Every level gives each player of the guild access to various guild perks. For example: The first rank increases the experience that every player in the guild earns by 5%. Other levels increase the speed of your mounts or decrease the cooldown of your Hearthstone. One of the higher levels also loots 10% extra gold per monster that goes straight into your guild bank.

The highest levels then give you access to the really powerful guild perks. Mail that you send to your fellow guild members will arrive instantly. Costs for repairs and purchases at all vendors drop by 5%. You can summon your entire raid group from one point to another at will, or even resurrect all your friends at the same time after an unsuccessful attempt at a new boss. Those abilities are the most powerful ones and thus you won’t see them for a long time. Earning the highest level for your guild will take even longer than simply maximizing your own character.

Another first in a World of Warcraft add-on: Blizzard has reworked large portions of the user interface. The old Spell Book is now easier to navigate, because old spell ranks simply do not exist anymore and thus cannot clutter your Spell Book. The character interface, navigation of your pets and mounts and many other elements were redone and are now much more intuitive. To sum it up: You spend less time with the interface and more time with the actual game.

Your friends list has received an update as well. By using Blizzard’s RealID you can now see if your friends are online whether they are actually playing World of Warcraft or not. Less AoE, more control
As an avid player of Wrath of the Lich King you will have noticed that players did not have to worry about which target to attack first, which target to crowd control and so on. Instead, all classes more or less spammed their area of effect spells to pulverize entire groups of enemies in seconds. For some players this might have been fun; challenging gameplay, however, looks different.

Therefore Blizzard brought back the old crowd control gameplay of previous expansions.

The Old World is completely revamped. Not one single area still looks the way you remember them from Wrath of the Lich King. This also means that you can finally use your flying mount in the Old World (for a small fee, of course).

If you always hated being bound to the ground, you can now saddle up on your dragon and explore Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms from above.

All the new areas in the Old World that are now unlocked invite you to explore the world once more. At the southern edge of Tanaris lies Uldum, the mythical home of the Titans. Once again Blizzard will deliver several 5-man instances along with every major raid instance to advance the storyline and give you a better story backdrop to try out those raid instances.

Now that the old world has been disturbed and the terrain forever altered, players will be able to use flying mounts to cross the new terrain instead of being limited to Outlands and Northrend. Underwater travel will also be possible, opening up many new places to explore in the WoW Cataclysm expansion.

Players exploring this new world will be able to reach a level cap of 85, up from 80 and use a new system called Path of the Titans. This new system allows the player to unlock new abilities in conjunction with the new secondary profession, Archeology, to create a unique set of abilities. These abilities are not tied to any particular class or race, which opens up a great deal of variety for players who want something unique.

The last big announcement for the WoW Cataclysm expansion is Guild Advancement. This feature allows guilds to level up and unlock abilities that benefit the guild in many aspects. Benefits include removal of raid buff reagents, mass resurrections and reduced costs on repairs. A number of factors contribute to leveling the guild such as individual progression and player vs player achievements. Guilds will also be able to buy unique items that they earn through leveling.
